Construction History: The Pingtung Arts Center was established following the Executive Yuan's 1548th meeting on October 3, 1977, which directed the planning of cultural construction and the establishment of a cultural center in each county and city, including libraries, museums, and concert halls. At that time, the county's cultural center was divided into two parts: the Arts Center and the Zhongzheng Library. In September 1975, through the Cultural and Arts Foundation, a comprehensive arts center was built in the county with equal funding from the central government, provincial government, and local government. Construction began on July 3, 1978, and it was completed and opened on October 27, 1980, making it the first cultural activity center to be completed in Taiwan. It has since promoted cultural and artistic activities in the county and significantly contributed to raising the county's cultural and artistic standards. In 2020, renovation work was carried out, including updating theater equipment, adjusting backstage and side stages, improving accessibility facilities, and reviewing and updating fire and building codes, to provide a more complete environment for public use. Building Facilities: The Pingtung Arts Center has one basement level and three above-ground levels, with a total area of approximately one hectare and a building area of 1,932 ping. It includes a theater, stage, rehearsal rooms, dressing rooms, etc., with the theater accommodating 624 seats. In addition to musical performances, the Arts Center is also suitable for dance, drama, film operas, and other dynamic artistic performances, as well as cultural lectures and art events.
