Pingtung Sugar Factory. In April 1907, Taiwan Sugar Corporation acquired Daitō Sugar Company and designated it as the Arisan Branch Factory of Taiwan Sugar Corporation, selecting. In April 1907, Taiwan Sugar Corporation acquired Daitō Sugar Company and designated it as the Arisan Branch Factory of Taiwan Sugar Corporation, selecting its location in Guilai Village, Ako Prefecture. The factory construction was completed in November, and sugar production commenced. After World War II, it was rebuilt in 1950 as Taiwan Sugar Corporation Pingtung Sugar Factory, which it remains today. During the peak of the sugar industry, 75% of our country's foreign exchange earnings came from sugar production, with Pingtung Sugar Factory having the highest output. Following Qiaotou Sugar Factory, Ako Sugar Factory became the headquarters of Taiwan Sugar Corporation during the Japanese colonial era. The construction of the sugar factory witnessed the rise of Pingtung City and made Pingtung the core of the Pingtung Plain. Pingtung Sugar Factory was once an important base for sugar production in Pingtung. It now serves as a Sugar Industry Cultural Museum. The indoor exhibition displays numerous old photographs from sugar factories across Taiwan and introduces the history of the sugar industry. Several retired narrow-gauge trains, formerly used for transporting sugarcane, are displayed outdoors for public viewing and photography. Opposite the factory, there is also an ice cream parlor selling popsicles and ice cream, a perfect treat to cool down on a hot summer day.
