Ci Feng Temple. During the Yongli reign of the Ming Dynasty, a Buddhist monk who worshipped Mazu arrived from Fujian to Ako (present-day Pingtung City). Initially, the statue of Mazu was temporarily placed in the government office for devout worship. However, what puzzled everyone was that a flashing red light appeared every midnight. At first, people couldn't understand the meaning of the red light. After some time, they finally realized that this was a manifestation of Mazu's divine power, and thus they decided to build a temple to enshrine her. This was the distant cause for the construction of Ci Feng Temple in 1737 (the 2nd year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty), and it is a miraculous story that has been passed down among believers for a long time. In the more than two hundred years since its founding, Ci Feng Temple experienced a severe fire in 1983, when a short circuit caused the front and back halls to be almost completely destroyed. However, what reassured and amazed the believers was that the deities enshrined in the temple were unharmed. After this fire disaster, a large-scale reconstruction project lasting fifteen years was immediately launched, which led to the current appearance of Ci Feng Temple. On the roof above the plaque of "Ci Feng Temple," one can immediately see the sumptuously decorated Koji pottery art, with lifelike figures and colorful dragons and beasts; the caisson ceiling above the main hall is made of layers of golden dougong, which is not only magnificent but also imposing; and there are many historical relics within the temple that are over a hundred years old, such as
