The name Sige Mountain originates from the Puyuma word "Binglang Sige," meaning "a place where betel nut trees are planted." Due to its advantageous terrain, it was designated as a military base with artillery emplacements during the Japanese colonial era. Although its altitude is only 410 meters, its location at the highest point of the Taitung Plain, with no obstructions around, makes it an excellent spot for viewing the urban landscape of Taitung City and the surrounding mountainous terrain. It is also a hidden gem for leisure hiking, offering a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of Taitung City.
