Green Island Guanyin Cave. Legend has it that during the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty, fishermen were caught in a storm at sea and spotted a ball of fire moving in the east. They sailed towards it and successfully returned home. They sailed towards it and successfully returned home. Afterwards, they investigated and discovered a cave containing a stalagmite shaped like Guanyin (Goddess of Mercy). Thus, the place was named 'Guanyin Cave'. The way of worshiping Guanyin here is quite unique. Because the Guanyin stone statue sits cross-legged on a lotus pedestal facing east, its back is towards the worshippers. Therefore, one must worship from the opposite direction. It is worth mentioning that Guanyin Cave does not have a formal temple built. It only has a simple offering table and incense burner, and is maintained by a management committee composed of island residents. Despite this, it is the most important spiritual center on Green Island. Whether for weddings, births, or facing life's difficulties, island residents come here to seek guidance.
