Due to the island's appearance resembling a warship, legend has it that during World War II, when the US and Japanese forces were fighting near Lanyu, US aircraft mistook Junjianshan for a warship at sea and bombed it. This accidental bombing is still a widely told anecdote in the Dongqing tribe today. Because of the strong currents and hidden waves, the island has fostered a rich ecosystem, resulting in a large quantity and diverse variety of fish, making it an early traditional fishing ground for the Dongqing tribe. With its unique shape, Junjianshan attracts photography enthusiasts who come to capture its magnificent scenery and record its grandeur.
