Taroko National Park has numerous trails, each with its own characteristics. Among them, the "youngest" is the "Xiao Zhuilu Trail." Not only is it conveniently accessible, but it is also not difficult to traverse. The scenery along the trail is very distinctive, making it an ideal first stop for visiting Taroko. The Xiao Zhuilu Trail was completed in 2014, but it was damaged by a typhoon shortly after completion. It was reopened after repairs and is a 650-meter-long scenic trail. Visitors can start from the Taroko Visitor Center, walk through the Shakadang Tunnel to the east ventilation exit, and reach the trail. It takes about 25 minutes to complete the entire trail. The terrain along the trail is varied, with wooden plank stairs, flat forest paths, and a popular "plank suspension bridge." Steel Cable Suspension Bridge Offers a Challenge. The Xiao Zhuilu Trail was originally a mountain path used by the Truku indigenous people to travel between the Taroko Plateau and Shakadang. It is named for its cliff terrain, similar to that of the "Zhuilu Old Road." The trail is located in the broad-leaved forest on the north bank of the Liwu River. The scenery along the trail mainly features the lower reaches of the Liwu River. The marble cliffs on the left side harbor rich biodiversity; macaques can often be seen leaping among the trees, along with many wild plants and animals. Visitors can overlook the wide riverbed of the lower Liwu River.
