[Important Announcement] Ruisui National Forest Recreation Area will be closed for renovation starting February 5, 2025. Ruisui National Forest Recreation Area Announcement Due to severe damage from the 0403 earthquake and Typhoon Kong-rey, the park's facilities have been heavily impacted. To ensure visitor safety and allow nature to recover, the park will undergo comprehensive renovation. We will return with an even better appearance! The park is temporarily closed. Please do not enter, to avoid danger! The park's trails vary in length, steepness, and scenery. Visitors can choose trails that suit their physical condition and preferences to deeply experience the original natural scenery and appreciate the diverse ecosystem of flora and fauna. Located in Ruisui Township, Hualien County, Ruisui National Forest Recreation Area boasts Taiwan's largest camphor forest and primary broadleaf forest, as well as the spectacle of fluttering butterflies, hence its more familiar name – Butterfly Valley. The area was originally managed by the Hualien Forest District Office of the Forestry Bureau, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan. In 2004, it was transferred to private operation, integrating existing hiking trails, forest recreation areas, hot springs, and resorts. It was then re-planned and prepared to become the popular destination it is today for hiking, sightseeing, and relaxation.
