The Lushui-Heliou Trail is flat and easy to walk, retaining its original appearance with rich landscapes and beautiful ecological scenery, suitable for visitors of all ages. In the past, 'Heliou' was a timber distribution center. The Nationalist government logged trees here, transporting them via cableway to this point, and then sending them to various locations along the Central Cross-Island Highway. After logging ceased, it was planned as the Heliou Campground. The Lushui-Heliou Trail is located within the Tianxiang Recreational Area of Taroko National Park, composed of the 'Lushui Trail' and the 'Heliou Trail'. The entrance to the Lushui Trail is next to the Lushui Geological Exhibition Hall. The two-story exhibition hall introduces themes such as Earth's evolution and changes in the Earth's surface. Before entering the trail, you can visit the exhibition hall for a deeper understanding of Taroko's geological formation. Nature Classroom The trail was originally part of the Hehuan Mountain Crossing Trail, first built by Japanese police to manage the Taroko tribes. After the Taroko War ended in 1914, the road was rebuilt, widened, and extended. In 1986, when Taroko National Park was established, this section of the ancient trail from Lushui to Heliou was renovated into the current trail, with most sections being remnants of the ancient trail preserved since the Japanese colonial era.
