Ruisui Hot Spring's water quality is very special and rare, the only carbonated spring in Taiwan rich in iron and barium. When iron comes into contact with air and oxidizes, it forms a layer of yellowish-brown crystals with a slightly rusty smell on the water surface, known as "hot spring flowers." The water is golden yellow, comparable to "Arima Onsen" near Kobe, Japan. It was called "Golden Hot Spring" by the Japanese during the colonial period and is now highly sought after by Japanese tourists who love hot springs. Ruisui Hot Spring water is alkaline, and local residents have long believed that couples who soak in this weakly alkaline hot spring have a higher chance of having a son, hence its nickname "Son-Bearing Spring." Hualien's hot springs are famous far and wide and are a great place for hot spring bathing in the East Rift Valley. "Ruisui Hot Spring" is Taiwan's only "heroic hot spring" of "carbonated spring."
