The cliff is composed of marble, gneiss, and phyllite, and is the most magnificent scenery along the Suhua Highway, serving as its spiritual symbol and one of Taiwan's Eight Wonders. In addition to being the most spectacular scenery along the Hualien-Taitung coast, Qingshui Cliff is also an excellent spot for watching the sunrise. While marveling at the view, visitors can get closer to appreciate the beauty of Qingshui Cliff by engaging in activities like kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding in the blue Pacific Ocean below. The cliff drops directly into the sea, with a height difference of over 800 meters. This impressive cliff was formed by the Philippine Sea Plate pushing the Eurasian Plate upwards, while rainwater and wind eroded the softer surface materials, exposing the hard granite and marble underneath. Qingshui Cliff is a sea cliff formed by fault structures approximately 250 million years ago. As the remains of organisms such as corals, shells, and algae gradually accumulated on the seabed, they formed limestone through lithification. Later, the deep burial under upper rock layers metamorphosed the limestone into marble. Around 9 million years ago, the collision between the Eurasian Plate and the Philippine Sea Plate began, causing the sea cliff to gradually uplift. Combined with erosion and weathering from rain and wind, it formed the spectacular marble cliff face seen today. One of Taiwan's Eight Wonders.
