Built in 1931, Qilai Cape Lighthouse is located at the Qilai Cape promontory at the northern end of Hualien Port. It was originally a white square lighthouse, but was bombed by US aircraft during World War II, suffering severe damage and ceasing to emit light. In 1963, the Customs Administration rebuilt a white pentagonal reinforced concrete lighthouse near the original site to accommodate the opening of Hualien Port as an international port. This is the only pentagonal reinforced concrete lighthouse in Taiwan. It is currently not open to visitors. A small path nearby leads to the Qilai Cape Lighthouse viewing platform, offering views comparable to those from the lighthouse itself. To admire the exterior of the lighthouse, you can visit the nearby Hualien Environmental Protection Park.
