The Hualien Port Waterfront Recreation Area was originally a cluster of warehouses belonging to the Hualien Port Bureau. It has been planned as exhibition spaces such as the Venus Gallery. The Waterfront Recreation Area is not a place for playing in the water, so the name can indeed be misleading. Inside, you can still see traces of old railway tracks, and you can get closer to the sea and ships (perhaps this is the intended meaning of 'waterfront'). Nearby, there are also the Hualien Port Landscape Bridge and the Old Hualien Port Station. Within this area, you can watch ships entering and leaving the port. The space is vast, suitable for walking, exercising, and cycling. The nearby Landscape Bridge allows you to view the train shunting at the Old Hualien Port Station and overlook the Pacific Ocean, making it a good spot for watching the sunrise. Looking south towards the mouth of the Hualien River, it is an excellent vantage point for viewing the entire Hualien Port. There is a wooden boardwalk next to the bridge for pedestrians to stroll and enjoy the view. It is equipped with ramps, and the entrance to the Landscape Bridge is about 90 cm wide, accessible by wheelchair. The circular viewing platform on the left leads to the "Waterfront Recreation Area," but there is a barrier, so be aware. The ramp is long and steep. If you wish to visit, it is recommended to enter by car through another entrance, passing the Old Hualien Port Station and crossing a level crossing to arrive. The air is fresh, making it a relaxing and comfortable leisure spot.
