Changhong Bridge Recreation Area. The elegant arched bridge of Changhong Bridge spans both sides of the Xiuguluan River estuary, forming a beautiful rainbow shadow at the junction of mountains and sea, becoming a famous photo landmark on the east coast. This is also the final stop for rafting, where tired but satisfied rafts dock. Stroll along the riverside path, watch water birds foraging by the riverbed, and see cyclists passing by. The scenery changes with the seasons due to the surrounding vegetation. If you get tired, take a break at the nearby "New Pacific No. 1 Store" for afternoon tea and spend a leisurely time. The Xiuguluan River, with a total length of about 104 kilometers, is the largest river in eastern Taiwan and the only river that cuts through the Coastal Mountain Range. Located at the mouth of the Xiuguluan River, Changhong Bridge connects Gangkou Village and Jingpu Village at its north and south ends, respectively. There are two bridges: an old and a new one. The old Changhong Bridge was built in 1969. Due to the increasing traffic volume year by year, it became insufficient, so the "New Changhong Bridge" was built in 2006. The bright red bridge stretches across the green mountains and clear waters, looking quite striking. It offers different views from afar and up close. The New Changhong Bridge has specially planned separate lanes for fast and slow traffic, as well as bicycle lanes and pedestrian walkways, all to allow visitors to safely gaze at the mouth of the Xiuguluan River from the bridge. The old Changhong Bridge is no longer open to vehicles and has been designated as a pedestrian-only path.
