Niushan Huting. Niushan is located between Shuilian, Fanshuliao Pit, and Jiqi. It is one of the five natural reserves along the coast of Hualien and Taitung. Niushan was originally a place where the Amis people grazed cattle and farmed, and the Amis called it "Huting". Shuilian has abundant water sources, hence many "leeches". The Amis called it "Ciwdiyan", meaning "abundant in leeches". Han Chinese adopted the homophone "Shuilian". Verdant hills embrace a vast river valley basin, with the Shuilian River winding through. It is a community where multiple ethnic groups have merged, possessing rich natural resources, unique geological landscapes, and precious tourism assets such as flora, fauna, and indigenous culture. Looking towards the coastline from the park, one sees a bay cape extending into the azure sea. The ocean currents along Shuilian engage in a tug-of-war with the river entering the sea each year. The beach exhibits different styles with the changing climate. In different seasons and times, it is successively covered by pebbles, fine sand, driftwood, etc., hence it is also known as "Changing Skin Beach".
