Currently, there is still one hidden in Hualien, the "Tianpu Log Pond Ecological Wetland," which has become a secret forest retreat for Hualien citizens. Tianpu Ecological Pond is currently the largest wetland in Hualien City and a perfect breeding ground for numerous waterbirds. It boasts over 50 species of trees and shrubs, with lotus flowers and diverse aquatic plants blooming in the pond. This rich ecological environment attracts various bird species such as the Common Gallinule, Little Egret, Japanese White-eye, Common Kingfisher, and Ruddy-breasted Crake, making it a hidden forest sanctuary within the city. The nearly 2-hectare Tianpu Ecological Pond was formerly a "log pond" for the Mugua Forest District Management Office. After years of disuse, the Hualien Forest District Management Office of the Forestry Bureau, in response to the transformation of forestry operations, began a cooperative educational program with the Forestry Department of Hualien Vocational High School of Agriculture in 2005. This collaboration focuses on long-term sustainable ecological maintenance and management, transforming the log pond into a wetland ecological park. Hand-made trails using "Cinnamomum osmophloeum wood chips" and "Cinnamomum camphora wood chips" have been completed. Rich in plant essential oils, these trails are not only fragrant but also have insect-repelling and mosquito-repelling effects, making visitors feel as if they are in a forest. Currently, Tianpu Ecological Pond features interpretive signs for plants, wetland ecology, and birds. The original log scaling house has been renovated and now serves as an introduction to the area.
