In 1626, it became the administrative center of the Spanish Governor's Office in northern Taiwan. After repeated destruction and reconstruction, from 1884 onwards, it became an important military stronghold for guarding Keelung Harbor during the Qing Dynasty. It was not until 1886 that Liu Mingchuan rebuilt the She-liao Battery, which was later renovated by the Japanese and divided into the East Battery and West Battery. -Attraction Features- She-liao, today's Heping Island, was first built as a battery by the Spanish Governor's Office in 1626. One of the main battery locations was the present-day She-liao West Battery. After 1642, the She-liao area was successively occupied by the Dutch, the Zheng family, and the Qing Dynasty. On the eve of the Sino-French War, Liu Mingchuan set up batteries here again. However, the war broke out before the batteries were completed. Later, the She-liao Battery was rebuilt in 1886. During the Japanese colonial period, in 1907, the Japanese government renovated the She-liao Battery and divided it into the East Battery and West Battery. Currently, only facilities such as the reservoir, command post, machine gun bunker, observation post, and ammunition depot remain. The battery utilizes the depressions of the valleys and terrain.
