Legend has it that in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, a highly accomplished fisherman who worked in the waters near Keelung Island for years saw Honglong Mountain from Keelung Island at sunset and perceived it as a red dragon coiled around the mountain, hence its name. Along with Shiqiu Ling, Hongdan Mountain, and Yuemei Mountain, it was a stronghold defended by the Qing army during the Sino-French War. Therefore, you can also see abandoned Qing army bunkers along the way, and hiking here allows you to feel the traces of history. The Yongjia Scenic Trail takes about 40 minutes one way. The path is not long, and the slope is not too steep, so you can choose a section that suits you for hiking. Besides hiking, you can see the scenery of Keelung Port along the entire trail, allowing you to exercise while enjoying the view.
