Su clan members Su Xiaode and Su Yuqi served as district chiefs of Chiayi and established the Meiji Trading Company, gaining considerable fame and maintaining close ties with the political, economic, and cultural development of Chiayi City. To promote reverence for ancestors and the clan, this ancestral hall was established at the beginning of the Japanese colonial era, evolving from the Su family ancestral hall into a common ancestral hall for the Su, Zhou, and Lian surnames. The hall enshrines the spiritual tablets of Su, Zhou, and Lian, as well as 31 spiritual tablets of Su ancestors who achieved the Jinshi degree and received noble titles, and a special spiritual tablet for the "Ong Gong Zu," a benefactor of the Su clan. This building is an example of a luxurious private residence converted into an ancestral hall, in traditional Southern Fujian style, well-preserved in its format. The entire structure features five bays, a one-courtyard, three-section compound. The main hall uses no nails or iron. The wood carvings and paintings on the lintel are exquisite, and the wooden windows have a special opening design. The porch, the dougong roof structure, and the bracket sets under the eaves are interconnected by curved square beams. Between the beams and rafters, each bay has two sets of douzuo grass, which is relatively rare.
