These architectural characteristics are rare in Chiayi City, which is why it has been preserved to this day. The land it occupies is designated for forestry. In the past, it was consistently hidden by trees and bushes due to un-widened roads. Later, when the section of Minquan Road between Chiayi Park and Lantan Elementary School was widened, the "Water Meter Room," hidden for decades, was finally revealed. Its distinctive architecture and design have garnered particular attention. This building was constructed by the Taiwan Water Corporation to house water meters. It has a history of at least eighty-five years, having been completed during the Japanese colonial era. The Water Meter Room was responsible for recording the daily flow rates of the water purification plant. As it no longer meets modern practical needs, it has been out of use for over twenty years.
