Dingzhuang Village in Chiayi City has achieved success in environmental and ecological transformation over the years, converting the old Taiwan Sugar Railway into a community bicycle path. Swarms of rhinoceros beetles can be seen everywhere on the Formosan gum trees on both sides, which is a delightful surprise! The restoration of rhinoceros beetles is not easy. Dingzhuang Community has brought the rhinoceros beetles back by improving water quality, the environment, planting Formosan gum trees, and building a bicycle path to create a suitable living environment. Every year in mid-May, rhinoceros beetles emerge from the soil to find mates and reproduce. Hundreds of rhinoceros beetles perch on the Formosan gum trees, striking various poses, and even engaging in battles, creating a surprising spectacle. Rhinoceros beetles are known as "armored warriors." The "Searching for Rhinoceros Beetles" event is held annually from mid-May to the end of June. Visitors are welcome to bring their families to experience nature and relive childhood memories. It is worth mentioning that in 2017, the Chiayi City Government held the "First Gold Medal Rural Competition," and "Dingzhuang Community" emerged as the winner, being selected as a Gold Medal Rural area.
