This building was constructed in 1936, designed by Umezawa Shutaro, who was an engineer at the Taiwan Governor-General's Monopoly Bureau at the time. The Chiayi Branch managed the tobacco and wine monopoly business in Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan counties and cities, making it significant as a testament to industrial history. Its main structures include the historic building constructed in 1936, a wine warehouse from 1954, and a tobacco and wine finished goods warehouse from 1980. The architectural style combines the concise style of modern architecture with the characteristics of the era of extensive use of tiles. The corners of the exterior walls are curved, the base is elevated, and the windows and lintels form horizontal bands. The facade is covered with SCRATCH-style tiles produced in Beitou, serving as a historical witness to the transformation of classical architectural style into modernist architecture.
