About Ci Long Temple. Ci Long Temple's main deity is Guanyin Bodhisattva, accompanied by Shan Cai and Liang Nü, and also enshrines the Goddess of Childbirth and the Earth God. It is a folk belief in Taiwan that blends Buddhist and Taoist deities. Originally named Guanyin Pavilion, its worship began in the 41st year of the Qianlong era (1776), when Han Chinese ancestors from Putuo Mountain in Zhejiang Province brought it to Taiwan. In the 39th year of Meiji (1906), a major earthquake in Chiayi caused Guanyin Pavilion to collapse. At that time, Ye Fa, Huang Xian, and others initiated fundraising for reconstruction on the original site. In the 13th year of Showa (1938), the Japanese government promoted the "Imperial Rule Assistance Association" movement and Shintoism in Taiwan. Under the concept of "one temple per street/village," Guanyin Pavilion was merged into the City God Temple. In 1947, believers like Zeng Mu raised funds and purchased the current site to rebuild Ci Long Temple. The Connection between Master Lin Yushan and Ci Long Temple. Guanyin Bodhisattva decreed the selection of the current site for temple construction, and nearby residents contributed money and labor to build it. Lin Yushan lived nearby and was then an art teacher at National Chiayi High School. He enthusiastically participated in the temple's construction, responsible for the temple's paintings and calligraphy. Among them, five ink wash murals were created, all themed around animals, symbolizing auspiciousness. They are the only authentic works by a master in Taiwan and are truly rare treasures.
