Hidden behind Taipei National University of the Arts, the Zhongyi Mountain Trail, also known as Xiaobali Fenshan, is an excellent natural aerobic exercise spot. Its greatest feature is its nearly 90% tree canopy coverage, providing a cool experience even on hot summer days, making it the best choice for sun-averse hikers. However, this trail is challenging, consisting almost entirely of stone steps, especially the continuous steep ascent before the summit, which is a significant test of leg strength and stamina. It's crucial to regulate your breathing rhythm while climbing to avoid getting winded. If you need to rest, the first half allows for a detour to the pavilion in the backyard of the Hsingtian Temple, while the second half offers wider stone steps with railings for brief pauses. When you see green railings, the spacious platform at the summit is not far away. Upon reaching the summit, in addition to benches, you can walk on the pebble path to improve circulation. The view from here is excellent, renowned for offering the most beautiful perspective of Guanyin Mountain, with the Tamsui River scenery also fully visible. Occasionally, egrets can be seen resting on the flat plateau. The descent becomes narrower and quieter, with denser tree cover, giving a sense of seclusion. Along the way, guided by a rope, you'll reach another viewing point directly facing Guanyin Mountain and the Tamsui River. At the end of the trail, the Guandu Plain, the MRT Beitou Depot, and the tall incinerator chimney come clearly into view, marking a perfect end to the journey.
