Originally named Zhongxing Guesthouse, Yangmingshan Residence was built between 1969 and 1970. It was formerly used by former President Chiang Kai-shek to host domestic and foreign guests and as a summer retreat. It is the only official residence he personally selected and built in Taiwan. Today, it has become an important historical site and environmental education center in Yangmingshan National Park, offering various services such as visitor information and guided tours. It is a place for sightseeing and recreation that combines nature and culture, intellect and emotion. Yangmingshan Residence is located on Zhongxing Road, covering an area of approximately 15 hectares. In its early days, it was a natural forest and a forest park under the jurisdiction of the Yangmingshan Administration, and it also served as a campsite for the Boy Scouts Association. After the completion of Zhongxing Guesthouse and its ancillary buildings in 1970, a portion of the forest area was preserved. In 1979, the Central Committee of the Kuomintang's Party History Committee moved here to work and consolidated historical materials from Caotun and Qingtang in Nantou, along with the Daxi Data Room and the "Presidential Archives" from Zhishan Residence, all in one place for convenient research and reference by domestic and international scholars. From then on, Zhongxing Guesthouse was renamed "Yangmingshan Residence." On September 26, 1997, the Kuomintang donated the above-ground buildings and management rights of Yangmingshan Residence to the Ministry of the Interior, which was then transferred to our administration for management. The Yangmingshan Residence Management Station was established and officially opened to the public on June 27, 1998, providing visitor services and guided tours of Zhongxing Guesthouse.
