Upon entering, you'll see century-old trees, leisurely pigeons and squirrels, and many local residents playing chess or practicing Tai Chi under the pavilions. The park preserves many classical landscapes from the Japanese colonial era when it was known as "Taipei New Park," including an elegant Japanese-style arched bridge, a Chinese-style pavilion by a lotus pond, and a retired old locomotive. It offers numerous picturesque spots for photography and is an excellent place to observe the daily rhythm of Taipei citizens. However, the park's core lies in its quiet and solemn other side. The park's name commemorates the "228 Incident" in modern Taiwanese history, and thus, the towering and uniquely designed "228 Peace Memorial Monument" stands in the center, conveying hopes for peace and reconciliation through its concise and powerful design. Adjacent to it, the "228 Memorial Museum," converted from an old radio station, serves as an entry point for visitors to gain a deeper understanding of this history.
