It features symmetrical Greek-style columns and a spacious veranda, exuding the solemnity and leisure of American Southern Colonial style. Historically, this building held a distinguished diplomatic status, serving for a long time as the official residence of the U.S. Ambassador to Taiwan, with several ambassadors including Rankin, Strausz-Hupé, and Kirkpatrick having resided here. However, with the shift in diplomatic relations in 1979, the last ambassador departed, and this beautiful building was officially closed, falling into a long period of silence. This long-vacant old house finally welcomed a new turning point in 1997. It was designated as a national Class III historic site by the Ministry of the Interior, recognizing its historical and architectural value. The Taipei City Department of Cultural Affairs decided to inject new life into this space, entrusting the Taiwan Film and Culture Association to manage and revitalize it into an arts and cultural space centered on film culture – "Taipei House." Today, "Taipei House" has become a sanctuary for art enthusiasts and film lovers. The heart of the old house is the "SPOT Film House," an exquisite 88-seat cinema dedicated to screening art and independent films. The spaces within the residence have also been cleverly utilized: "SPOT.Red Balloon" is a film salon offering light meals; "SPOT.
