With its symmetrical Greek columns and wide verandas, it exudes the solemnity and leisure of the American Southern Colonial style. Historically, this building held a prominent diplomatic status, serving for a long time as the official residence of the US Ambassador to Taiwan, including ambassadors Rankin, Drumright, and Kirk. However, with the change in diplomatic relations in 1979, the last ambassador left Taiwan, and this beautiful building was officially closed, falling into a long period of silence. This long-unused old mansion finally saw a new turning point in 1997. It was designated a National Class 3 Historic Site by the Ministry of the Interior, recognizing its historical and architectural value. The Taipei City Department of Cultural Affairs decided to breathe new life into this space, entrusting the Taiwan Film and Culture Association to manage it and transform it into an arts and cultural space centered on film culture – the "Taipei Film House." Today, the "Taipei Film House" is a mecca for hipsters and film lovers. The core of the old mansion is the "SPOT Cinema," a refined cinema with only 88 seats, specializing in art and independent films. The spaces within the mansion are also cleverly utilized: "SPOT Red Balloon" is a film salon offering light meals; "SPOT.
