Dongmen_Jingfu Gate. Dongmen, also known as Jingfu Gate, was the passage from Taipei City to Xikou (present-day Songshan). As it faced Keelung, an important port in northern Taiwan, it bore significant defensive responsibilities. The East Gate, also known as Jingfu Gate, was the thoroughfare from Taipei City to Xikou (present-day Songshan). The "Dongmen Street" leading to the East Gate at that time is today's Ketagalan Boulevard. Currently, as it is located in front of the Presidential Office, it has become a necessary passage for many rallies and demonstrations, giving the East Gate countless opportunities to be photographed. It can be said to be the most familiar city gate to all Taiwanese people, and it has become an important political and transportation hub in this area. Among the five city gates of Taipei City back then, the East Gate was the most meticulously crafted. Its plaque reads "Jingfu Gate," and its architectural structure is very similar to the North Gate. Both have a stone base with thick brick walls extending directly to the eaves, resembling an unbreakable square fortress. Inside the double-layer brick walls is a wooden structure. The roof is a "hip-and-gable" style with four slopes, simple and elegant. Below the eaves are green glazed hollow bricks for decoration, which are very classic. Unfortunately, it was later rebuilt into a Chinese northern palace-style city tower. However, the stone base and the arched gate are original materials, the gate opening is a semi-circular arch built with stone slabs, and the frame retains its thunder pattern decoration, still possessing considerable historical value.
