Dadaocheng Gu House. Located at No. 9, Lane 303, Guisui Street, the Gu Family Salt House was built in 1910 by Gu Xianrong, the father of former SEF Chairman Koo Chen-fu. As the Gu family was involved in the salt business at the time, this grand residence was always known as the "Salt House." It faced the Tamsui River pier, and was originally built by the river for business purposes, allowing boats to dock directly in front of the house. The Gu family moved out in 1961, and Rongxing Kindergarten was established at the current site in 1963, remaining there to this day. The building is quite distinctive, designed in a late Renaissance Revival style. It features an arcade in the front, with a light yellow tiled exterior, elegant arched windows, and glazed balustrades. The intricate crest and relief decorations on the central gable reflect the Western influence of the era and represent the homes of the wealthy at that time. Inside, the ceilings and staircase, meticulously crafted from abundant cypress wood, are remarkably well-preserved. The mark of Gu Xianrong's business, Daiwa Trading Company, is still visible on the walls. The Gu Family Salt House not only bears witness to the prosperity of the Gu family but also serves as a page in Taipei's history.
