Named for its elephant head-like shape, it is located in Xinyi District, southeast of the Taipei Basin. It shares the same sandstone geology as Huashan. Due to tectonic uplift, steep yellowish-brown rock walls and giant boulders are visible along the trail. Coupled with a rich variety of flora and fauna, the mountain is like a natural ecological paradise, making it a great place for people to get close to the low mountains and enjoy leisurely time in the outdoor greenery. Xiangshan boasts diverse microenvironments such as ridges, rock walls, slopes, depressions, and valleys, nurturing dozens of fern species. Ferns are ubiquitous on Xiangshan, some attached to tree trunks, some growing on rocks and slopes, and some densely covering the damp forest floor. Among them, the Golden Hair Fern (Blechnum orientale) has a large population, ranking first in Taipei City. In the past, when medicine was not well-developed, it was the best folk remedy for stopping bleeding. Additionally, in open, sunny, and damp depressions, there are ancient ferns from the Jurassic period, the Tree Fern (Cyathea spp.). Clusters of Tree Ferns are the most precious ecological feature in Taipei City, as the phenomenon of Tree Ferns growing in clusters is found only in northern Taiwan worldwide. Xiangshan is the highest point in the Four Beasts Mountain trail system. With no obstructions in front, the panoramic view from the summit is vast, encompassing not only the Xinyi commercial district.
