Freedom Lane and C.K. News Memorial Hall. To highlight Taiwan's democratic values and freedom of speech, the Taipei City Government passed a resolution at its meeting on June 19, 2012, to designate the lane located at Section 3, Minquan East Road, Taipei City, 101. To highlight Taiwan's democratic values and freedom of speech, the Taipei City Government passed a resolution at its meeting on June 19, 2012, to designate the lane at Alley 3, Lane 106, Section 3, Minquan East Road, Taipei City – the very alley where Mr. C.K. News self-immolated in his fight for freedom of speech – as "Freedom Lane." Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-pin unveiled the sign for "Freedom Lane" on August 21, 2012. The C.K. News Memorial Hall within "Freedom Lane" is the former office of the "C.K. News" weekly magazine. At the entrance of the memorial hall, there is a bronze statue and a large photograph of C.K. News. The solemn space preserves C.K. News' personal belongings, manuscripts, and other commemorative artifacts, as well as photos of related activities and publications from the C.K. News magazine at the time. Currently, the memorial hall offers guided tours by appointment. Through watching documentaries about C.K. News and receiving explanations from dedicated guides, visitors can gain a deeper understanding of the sacrifices and contributions made by this democratic fighter for Taiwan's freedom of speech. Visitors to this site, in addition to paying respects to the spirit of those who came before, can also appreciate the city government's commitment to safeguarding the precious asset of freedom of speech.
