Before 1908, it was originally a garden, and during the Japanese colonial period, it was rebuilt into a market. It once gathered nearly a thousand fabric stores and was the largest fabric center in Taiwan. Dadaocheng is also the cradle of traditional opera, known as the "theater hub." Dadaocheng Theater aims to perform, promote, and preserve traditional opera. The 9th-floor theater hosts various traditional opera performances such as Taiwanese opera, Peking opera, Nanguan, Beiguan, Hakka opera, storytelling, etc. The 8th-floor performance hall plans regular glove puppetry, Nanguan, and storytelling programs. The 1st-floor plaza arranges "Play in Theater" cultural and artistic activities. In spring and autumn, the theater offers cultural and artistic workshops for opera, tea art, fabric art, and other courses. It also arranges free art lectures and opera film screenings. The 8th-floor corridor exhibition area plans a permanent exhibition of glove puppetry and irregular special exhibitions. Guided tours can be booked for groups of 10 or more people. Rehearsal rooms and multi-functional briefing rooms are also available for rent by art groups. In addition, it plans opera campus promotion performances, campus art education programs, and training and performances for the affiliated Youth Taiwanese Opera Troupe, systematically inheriting traditional opera and cultivating young talent.
