Sanjiaodu Ferry Terminal. Sanjiaodu, formerly known as Hougangqian. Sanjiaodu, formerly known as Hougangqian. Hougangqian connected Shezi, Jiantan, and Dalongdong (Dalangbeng). As land was cultivated and villages formed, the settlement's reliance on this area grew. Besides connecting settlements and serving a transportation function, Sanjiaodu was also a harbor for the fishing boats of nearby residents. In addition to farming on land, raising ducks by the river, and raking for clams and fishing in the river were important means of livelihood. Due to river management, the ferry terminal's function gradually declined and disappeared. However, the history of Sanjiaodu bears witness to the changes in the Tamsui River, making it a historically significant location. Currently, only a dozen or so sampans quietly tell the stories of the ferry crossing's past. Preserver Ah-Zheng-Si (born into a shipbuilding family in Sanjiaodu, Jiantan, Taipei, he learned shipbuilding at seventeen, crafting nearly 300 sampans and 100 dragon boats, and is one of the few remaining traditional dragon boat master craftsmen in Taiwan) is passing on his skills and sowing cultural seeds, allowing the waterfront memories to continue and rekindling the warmth in Sanjiaodu.
