Tiaomi Historic Trail. The character "Tiao" (糶) in Tiaomi Historic Trail (糶米古道) is pronounced "tiào" and means "to sell grain.". The character "Tiao" (糶) in Tiaomi Historic Trail (糶米古道) is pronounced "tiào" and means "to sell grain." "Tiaomi" (糶米) means "to sell rice." During the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty, farmers in the Sanzhangli area, to save transportation time and preserve their energy, decided not to take the long flat roads. Instead, they opened this mountain path, consisting of 500 stone steps. The development of this path allowed rice from Nangang, Muzha, Shenkeng, and Jingmei to be transported quickly, also increasing trade. Because there is a Tiaomi Gong Temple (糶米公廟) on the historic trail, it is called "Tiaomi Historic Trail." Some also call it "Tiaomi Historic Trail" (挑米古道, meaning "carrying rice historic trail"). Due to the steep steps, it is said that people carrying rice often stopped here to rest. To thank the Earth God for blessing their journey, they would always leave a bowl of rice when resting. Over time, residents built a simple stone temple to show respect to the Earth God. After several renovations, it became the current "Tiaomi Gong Temple." Nearby, there is also the "Dexing Coal Mine Entrance." The Dexing Coal Mine began operations around 1897, with its peak production between 1946 and 1948. Later, the coal seams were depleted, and Songshan coal became extinct. The mine entrance is now preserved for visitors. In 2011, the Tiaomi Historic Trail underwent renovation, including repaving the stone steps, installing arch bridges, wooden boardwalks, and interpretive signs for the Tiaomi Historic Trail route.
