In Alley 224, over 10 herbal shops are gathered, offering a dazzling array of traditional Chinese medicinal herbs and herbal ingredients. It is said that in the early days of Wanhua's development, many epidemics were prevalent, but licensed TCM practitioners were very few. Herbal shops thus became the primary institutions for folk remedies. People would drink herbal decoctions to treat illnesses, and many ancient folk remedies are hidden within. At that time, it was even called "Life-Saving Street." Later, due to Longshan Temple's discontinuation of medicinal lot drawing and the implementation of health insurance, herbal products transformed into natural health foods. There are over 100 types of herbs here, all authentic Taiwanese herbs transported from the south and dried. The famous herbal tea is a perfect remedy for the sweltering summer heat, and many people come here to buy a few packs to brew at home. Under the planning of the Taipei City Government, Herb Alley and Guangzhou Street Lane 209, adjacent to Longshan Temple, are planted with live samples of medicinal herbs such as aloe, Sedum sarmentosum, Pilea japonica, and lavender, establishing a medicinal plant garden. This also makes it a great place for outdoor education.
