Zhuzihu. Zhuzihu is located in the core area of Yangmingshan National Park, at an altitude of about 650-670 meters. It is bordered by Xiaoguanyin Mountain to the north, Qixing Mountain to the east, and Datun Mountain to the west, opening up to a panoramic view of the Taipei Basin to the south. It was originally a "barrier lake" formed by volcanic eruptions 350,000 years ago. Due to erosion, a breach formed, and the lake gradually dried up, forming a depression. Since ancient times, it has been divided into three enclosed areas: Donghu, Dinghu, and Xiahu. Donghu refers to the area around Hutian Elementary School, which is the origin of the place name Zhuzihu. Dinghu refers to a small basin of about 20 hectares located above Donghu, reached by crossing Hutian Bridge and proceeding along the right-hand service road, hence its name Dinghu (Upper Lake). Xiahu refers to the basin around the current Calla Lily Boulevard, through which the Zhuzihu River flows. As it is located at a lower elevation relative to Donghu, it is called Xiahu (Lower Lake). The origin of the name Zhuzihu Zhuzihu was originally a barrier lake formed by volcanic lava eruptions. As the lake water gradually receded, it formed a wetland, and the indigenous Ketagalan people of the Pingpu tribe began to cultivate the land over a thousand years ago. When Han Chinese first arrived to cultivate the land about two hundred years ago, they saw that the land was muddy and covered with bamboo forests, so they named it Zhuzihu (in Taiwanese Hokkien, "hu" means muddy ground). There is also an ancient local legend that due to the dense bamboo groves that grew in the mountain basin in the early days, the mountain wind blowing from the mountaintops would rustle the bamboo.
