Taipei Bridge. Completed in August 1889 by Liu Mingchuan, the first governor of Taiwan, it connected San Chung Pu (now San Chung District) with the Dadaocheng Wharf in Taipei. In 1895, the bridge was named Tamsui Bridge and was an important transshipment port for the Dalongdong and Dadaocheng areas at the time. On February 27, 1947, the incident of confiscating smuggled cigarettes at Tianma Tea House occurred. The next day, February 28, a protest march was launched, gathering and departing from the current Taipei Bridge head.
