Shimen Cave. Standing on Provincial Highway No. 2 along the coast, Shimen Cave is a prominent landmark in Shimen District, New Taipei City. Its name originates from this very cave. Legend has it that during the Japanese colonial era, the unique coastal erosion landscape of Shimen Cave greatly amazed the Japanese, who then named this place "Shimen Village," which later became the name of the local township and is still used today.
