Eighteen Lords Temple. The full name of the Eighteen Lords Temple is Qianhua Eighteen Lords Ancestral Shrine. Qianhua refers to Qianhua Village in Shimen District, where it is located. Locals call it Alibang. The Eighteen Lords Temple, which has been extremely popular for a long time, is said to have originated in the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty. A sailing ship carrying 17 Fujian merchants and a dog capsized and sank on its way to Putuo Mountain in Zhejiang. The wreckage drifted to Qianhua Village in Shimen. All the people drowned, but the dog was fortunate to survive. After being discovered by a resident surnamed Lian, they were buried together at the foot of the mountain. The dog, seeing its masters had all perished, also died in mourning and was buried with them. Since then, during festivals and holidays, nearby residents have come to offer incense and worship. Over time, people have referred to and worshipped them as the Eighteen Lords.
