It was the largest theater in Taiwan during the Japanese colonial era. Due to severe population outflow in Jiufen, it closed down in 1986. Its unique architecture has made Shengping Theater a filming location for many movies, including "Duo Sang," "A City of Sadness," and "Blue Mountain Coffee," capturing classic scenes.
