During the Qing Dynasty, it was an important route for residents of the mountainous areas of Jinshan, Shimen, and Sanzhi to travel to Tamsui. Later, due to the development of transportation, the Taipei County (now New Taipei City) government built a new bridge, "Sande Bridge", in 1933 to facilitate the passage of people and vehicles. According to the "Record of Sande Bridge Construction" next to the bridge, the bridge body is constructed with stone slabs in three sections, hence its name "Sanban Bridge" (Three-Slab Bridge).
