Tamsui Octagonal Tower. Completed in 1925, the Octagonal Tower is the spiritual fortress of Tamsui Secondary School and a representative building of the Mackay era. Originally named the "Faith, Hope, and Love Tower," this building was designed by Mr. K. Doawie, a math teacher and missionary at the time. The architectural style references famous schools in Britain and America, combining both Chinese and Western elements, as well as local Taiwanese architecture. The layout follows the traditional Sanheyuan (three-section courtyard) style. The main tower, 60 feet high, is flanked by two-story structures, with classrooms gradually lowering along the wings. The front classrooms are capped with wing towers, featuring a balcony in the front and corridors on both sides. Three towers surround a verdant front courtyard, with a coconut palm-lined avenue leading to the main entrance. The main entrance features a Guanyin stone lintel, carved with dougong (interlocking wooden brackets) and palace lanterns to highlight Chinese elements.
