Bali (Ferry Pier) Old Street. Located on the left bank of the Tamsui River estuary, Bali developed earlier than Tamsui on the right bank. In the mid-Qing Dynasty, Bali became the first official port in northern Taiwan, with ferry services to Fuzhou and Quanzhou in Fujian. With the influx of many immigrants from Fujian, Bali experienced a period of commercial prosperity. Later, as the shipping channel silted up, Bali's port status was gradually replaced by Tamsui. Today's Bali Ferry Pier Old Street is the gateway to Bali's shipping, gathering many restaurants and food stalls. Coupled with the riverside parks and open-air cafes, Bali has become the most charming leisure destination on the left bank.
