Jinguashi Geological Park (Benshan Ore Body). The Benshan Ore Body is an important gold mining area in Jinguashi. In the 19th year of the Guangxu reign (1893 AD), gold panners from Keelung River traced their way upstream from Hou-tong and discovered the small "Golden Gourd" outcrop in Jiufen. In the 19th year of the Guangxu reign (1893 AD), gold panners from Keelung River traced their way upstream from Hou-tong and discovered the small "Golden Gourd" outcrop in Jiufen. The following year in May, the main "Golden Gourd" vein outcrop was discovered. The exposed rock resembled the shape of a golden gourd, hence the name "Jinguashi" (Golden Gourd Stone). The vertical distribution of the Benshan ore body extends from the peak of the main "Golden Gourd" at an altitude of 600 meters down to 130 meters below sea level, and it has not yet terminated. The gold content is uniform throughout the ore body. The widest part of the ore body can reach over a hundred meters, and the longest vein can be over 2 kilometers long, while shorter ones are mostly around several hundred meters. It is a very important gold deposit in Jinguashi.
