Wu Fu Yang has produced over 100 million pairs of socks, which, if connected end-to-end, could circle the Earth. In the 1930s, during the Japanese colonial era, Taiwan did not have professional sock manufacturing factories. The first-generation chairman, Wu Nai-yang, observed a business opportunity and imported the most advanced hand-cranked sock knitting machines from abroad at the time. He hired master craftsmen from Shanghai to come to Taiwan to teach the production of high-quality full-silk stockings, thus beginning the Wu family's connection with socks. When starting his business, Wu Nai-yang deeply cherished his late father, Wu Fu-tang. He combined one character from his own name and one from his father's name to name the company "Wu Fu Yang," in memory of his ancestors and to remember the source of his blessings.
