During the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, Prefect Yang Yanli opened the Danlan Ancient Trail to facilitate travel between Taipei and Yilan. The trail started from the Nuannuan area of Keelung River, following small paths along the river eastward, crossing the Sandiao Ridge and Caoling mountain areas, to the Dali and Toucheng areas of Lanyang, with a total length of over 200 kilometers.
