It is named after the three natural springs that emerge from the ground. Sankongquan is the upstream area of the Huanggao River, one of the fourteen streams in Tamsui. The Shulin'kou Stream originating from Fenjihu and the Sankongquan Stream originating from Xingfuliao converge here to form the Huanggao River, which then flows westward into the Tamsui River. Located on the hillside east of the current Tamsui MRT Station, Han Chinese began to cultivate and develop settlements here as early as the Qing Dynasty. Traditional brick and stone-built Han Chinese siheyuan (courtyard houses), terraced vegetable gardens, and transformed leisure farms can be seen here.
