Diyi Hall, also known as Diyitang, commonly called Marshal Temple, was founded in 1873 by the Banqiao Lin family after the Quanzhou-Zhangzhou conflict during the Xianfeng era, to commemorate the martial artists and brave men who died in battle. The main deity worshipped is Marshal Xu, whose real name was Xu Cai. He was a martial arts master hired by the Lin Benyuan family. During the Zhangzhou-Quanzhou conflict in the ninth year of the Xianfeng reign (1859), Xu Cai and 12 young men died in service.
