At dusk, the sound of gongs echoes through the valley of the Nanshi River in Wulai. Gongs are loud and play a key role in Taiwanese folk music. Wu Tsung-lin Gong and Copper Sculpture Studio is located by the Nanshi River, near the Wulai Tourist Bridge. Artist Wu Tsung-lin, a native of Wulai, has been deeply involved in gong making for over 40 years, handcrafting more than 6,000 gongs. He is one of Taiwan's few remaining handcrafted gong makers and artists. He learned his craft in a factory in Sanchong in his early years, and after completing his apprenticeship, he returned to Wulai's Liuxianju to create gongs and copper sculptures. In 2011, he received the New Taipei City Traditional Arts Master Award.
